HELDER RUSSO

Hélder Russo is a Lisbon-based producer and DJ well-known for his love of soul, jazz, hip-hop, funk, disco and Detroit house and techno.

Both the soundtrack of his upbringing (Portuguese speaking African authors of the highest caliber such as Orlando Pantera, Ferro Gaita and Cesária Évora) and his 90’s hip-hop and house music influences played a major role in musical growth.

His work as a producer comes as a result of all the above: an interesting blend of genres and styles, with black music as a common ground. From jazz and hip-hop, through to soul, funk, electro and new wave from the 80 ́s, all merging into the unique Detroit sound.

From his first productions – for Lisbon-based labels such as Groovement and Tomorrow IsNow Kid! – up until his work at Percebes, Hélder has developed his own signature sound – with tracks that convey a sense of sincerity without falling into the repeated formulas of the past.

His career as a DJ is equally consistent and captivating, subtly inspired by some of his reference artists such as Theo Parrish, Louie Vega, Carl Craig, among others.
